Soil.vs.Fertilize

Problem Scenario

Broad Question

Will different amounts of nutrition affect the plant?

Specific Question

Will soil and fertilize affect fast winter rye growth?

Hypothesis

The plant with fertilize will grow faster than the plant with soil. They water will affect the growth in the plant.

Variables

Independent Variable:

Amount of nutrition

Dependent Variable:

Plant growth and sunlight

Variables That Need To Be Controlled:

Type of plant(winter rye) amount of soil, and fertilize and pot size

Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation

winter rye- A plant which can grow in three days.
adjacent- Having a common vertex and a common side.

General Plan

I will plant winter rye seeds in a pot in the science fair room for two weeks. There will be enough water to make sure the plant can grow and the water can not over flow. I will record the data of the number of winter rye plants grown every day during the two weeks. When the data is recorded it will show how much the fertilize affects the winter rye.Later it will show the data on the data table and show how much progress it grew.

Potential Problems And Solutions

Not enough soil and fertilize to help plant grow with sunlight or water.

Safety Or Environmental Concerns

Keep soil and fertilize away from any person to prevent getting sick.

Background Research;

Winter rye is usually grown on farms or close to farms because it is a type of grain or crop.
The rye grain is used for flour, rye bread, and animal fodder.Rye It can also be eaten whole, either as boiled rye berries, or by being rolled, to oats.
Rye is one of a number of species that grow wild in central and eastern Turkey, and adjacent areas.
Winter rye is an excellent winter cover crop because it rapidly produces a ground cover that holds soil in place against the forces of wind and water. Rye’s deep roots help prevent compaction in annually tilled fields, and because its roots are quite extensive, rye also has a positive effect on soil.Archeological evidence of this plant has been found in roman history.
Winter rye is any breed of rye planted in the fall to provide ground cover for the winter. It actually grows during any warmer days of the winter, when sunlight temporarily brings the plant to above freezing, even while there is still general snow cover. It can be used to prevent the growth of winter-hardy weeds, and can either be harvested as a bonus crop, or tilled directly into the ground in spring to provide more organic matter for the next summer's crop.

Detailed Procedure

Things you need: 2 plant pots, black sharpie that you can write on the pots, fertilize and soil.
1.First place the 2 pots on the table
2.write with sharpie c on one pot and f on the other.
5.Next put a full cup of soil in to one pot with the f on it
6.The other pot with the c on it will be filled with soil and some fertilize.
7. Put 4 winter rye seeds into both pots.
8. Fill both pots 1/2 cup of water.
9. Water your plant twice a week(if it is extreme dry)if the winter rye has brown leaves it is probably dead.
10.Record data with of how many winter rye plants grew about every two days.

Data Analysis

The graph shows that over the 2 weeks that the plant with fertilize has more plants than the plant with soil. The graph on the x axis has number of planets and the y axis has growth in plant.the graph I used was a bar graph it went up by fives. The first graph was my hypothesis graph it was my prediction graph of what i think is going to happen during my experiment and after.

Conclusion:

My experiment hypothesis question was right because the winter rye with soil grew slower then the other plant .The plant with fertilize had a boost then the plant with soil. Both plants had the same water amount which didn't make a different to the plant growth. The plant with soil was controlled while the one with fertilize was not.

Discussion

The data shows on the graph that the plant with fertilizer grows better and faster than the plant with out.The dependent variable has a less stronger relationship with the independent. The independent variable is needed the dependent variable with out it the plant would have a different prospective or it wouldn't be a live. The experiment question was able to be answered the winter rye plant with the fertilize grew faster but had the same water amount as the other one.

Abstract

Will different amounts of nutrition affect the plant?
The plant with fertilizer will grow faster than the plant with soil. They water will affect the growth in the plant. My experiment had a problem with the water amount there was not enough water and the winter rye was growing slower then usually. The graph I made had a couple of errors when it was recorded on the computer. The data could help others by teaching them the simple mistakes you can make in the experiment or data. The data will help others understand that if change the experiment a little it can till make a affect. The information that collect can be used in the real world by scientist or other science methods.
.The experiment would improve a lot by watering it one day a week. There could be a little less soil.

Benefit to Community and/or Science

My science fair project could help scientist and students learn that plant fertilize can change the affect in winter rye and other plants. This project shows that the same plant can experience a different affect in change over time The experiment had the same amount of water and soil.
